These policies are implemented in order to make your parents and you aware of your progress.

Policy and Procedure

Homework

Quizzes will cover a few concepts at a time and will be announced the day before they are given.  All quizzes will be averaged to count 25% of the overall quarter grade.

Quizzes

A test will be given every two to two and one half weeks.  Tests will be announced at least four days in advance.  Students will not be tested on material where they have not had the opportunity to ask questions.  Tests will be averaged to count 65% of the overall quarter grade.

Tests

I will hold an extra help session each Wednesday after school in room 154A.  It is recommended that you tell me, if you are planning to attend.  Any changes to this schedule due to meetings will be announced in class.

Standardized Testing

Text Box: The course textbook, a notebook/index cards, a pen/pencil, and calculator are required each day for class. The Texas Instrument-83 graphing calculator is required.

Standardized testing is a fact of life, and we will do what we can to be prepared.  Practice with SAT/PSAT type questions will be done, especially in October.  At various times throughout the school year, students will have multiple-choice tests to prepare for midterms, finals and standardized testing.  Answers will be placed on a Scantron sheet and machine corrected.  Erasures that are picked up by the machine will be counted as incorrect.

Absences

When you are absent, you are responsible for the work that you miss.  It is up to the student to schedule make-ups with me.  If a student misses the day directly before a test and returns the next day, he or she is still responsible for taking the test the day of return (see me the morning of with extenuating circumstances).  Tests are announced ahead of time to accommodate for this.  Any student who misses a homework check while absent will have exactly one-week after return to complete the homework for a grade.  This is not mandatory; it’s a student’s choice.  It is not required to make up a quiz missed during an excused absence.  However, if a student wants to take the quiz, it would be to his benefit and his responsibility to schedule the makeup.  All tests missed during an excused absence will have to be taken at a later time.

You should expect some type of homework each night and including weekends.  Homework will be corrected during the following class period and checked periodically for a grade to insure that you are keeping up with your assignments.  The homework check could involve a look for completion or a collection of certain homework problems to be graded.  The homework average will count 10% toward the overall quarter grade.
